About Monty Howard’s Kenya coastline row
This is the official expedition page for Monty Howard on montyhoward.com. Monty Howard is rowing 333 miles along Kenya’s Indian Ocean coast, from Kiunga in the north to Vanga in the south. The map above is the live progress line: every mile Monty Howard rows fills in more of the Kenya coastline.
The challenge is a full-coast effort, not a harbour loop. Starting off Kiunga near the Somali border, the route runs south past the Lamu archipelago, Ungwana Bay, Malindi, Watamu, Kilifi, Mtwapa and Mombasa, then on toward Vanga on the Tanzanian border. Training and logged miles sync from Concept2 ErgData so the tracker on this Monty Howard page stays current.

- Start: Kiunga, northern Kenya (near Somalia)
- Lamu archipelago and Kiwayu / Pate waters
